How We Write and Check This Site
Christmas content on the open web has a reputation problem: a lot of it is padded, recycled, or quietly wrong about dates and prices. These are the standards we hold ourselves to, so you can judge whether we meet them.
Dates are calculated, not typed
Every date on the site — Advent, Black Friday, the winter solstice, the weekday Christmas falls on — is derived from the calendar at build time rather than written into the page. A hardcoded date is correct for one year and wrong forever after, which is the single most common error on seasonal sites. The same applies to the countdown, which recalculates in your browser rather than showing whatever it was when the page was last published.
We would rather omit than invent
Where we don't have reliable information, we say so and point you at the source that does. Our city pages don't list individual light-display addresses, because those change hands every year and a stale address sends you to a dark house. Gift guides we haven't finished researching say exactly that, rather than padding the page with products we haven't looked at.
Recipes and projects are written to be followed
Every recipe carries real quantities, times, and yields, and every craft lists the materials before the steps. Both are marked up with structured data so search engines and assistants read the same information you do — no bait-and-switch between what a search result promises and what the page says.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we want to know and we will fix it. Report errors through the contact page — pick "Report an Error or Correction" from the subject list and it goes straight to the top of the queue. Substantive corrections are made to the page itself rather than buried in a footnote.
