How do you print a Christmas word search?

Choose one of five word lists, press New puzzle for a fresh 15Γ—15 grid, and press Print β€” the site navigation and controls are hidden automatically, so the sheet comes out as the puzzle and word list alone. Fourteen words are hidden in each grid, running across, down, diagonally and backwards, overlapping wherever letters agree. An answer key at the foot of the page gives the starting square and direction of every word.

Using It at a Party or in a Classroom

A word search is the rare Christmas activity that works for a room of mixed ages at the same time, because everyone is solving the same grid at their own pace and nobody is waiting for a turn. Print one per person rather than sharing β€” the point is the quiet ten minutes, and two people over one sheet turns it back into a conversation.

For a classroom, the Christmas Dinner and Around the World lists carry the most vocabulary worth talking about afterwards: panettone, stollen, glΓΌhwein and Befana all come with a story attached, and our Christmas traditions section has the story for each of them.

Getting a Clean Print

Print in portrait with margins set to default; the grid is sized to fit US Letter and A4 without scaling. The site header, footer and the controls above are hidden automatically when printing, so the sheet comes out as the title, the grid and the word list. Leave the answer key collapsed before printing unless you want it on the page β€” an open details block prints with everything else, which is useful for whoever is running the room and unhelpful for everyone else.

If you want more to print while the printer is warm, the printables hub has planners, gift tags, a letter to Santa and a colouring page, all free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Christmas word search free to print?
Yes. There is no signup and no download step β€” press Print and the page prints as a clean puzzle sheet. Use it at home, in a classroom, or on a Christmas party table as often as you like.
How many words are hidden in the puzzle?
Fourteen, in a 15 by 15 grid. They run across, down, diagonally, and backwards in all four of those directions, and they overlap where letters agree β€” so a grid is harder than the word count suggests.
Can I get a different puzzle?
Press New puzzle for a fresh grid from the same word list, or change the theme to get a different list entirely. There are five themes: classic Christmas, Santa and reindeer, Christmas dinner, carols and songs, and markets around the world.
What age is a Christmas word search good for?
Roughly six and up. Younger children do better with the Classic Christmas and Santa lists, which use shorter words; the Carols and Around the World lists include longer entries like SILENTNIGHT and STRASBOURG that suit older children and adults.
